New legislation:

New in 2022! A registered future voter who is 17 years of age on the day of the August Primary election and will reach the age of 18 before the following November General election is now eligible to vote in the primary election. These voters are called "Primary-only Voters" and are only allowed to vote on certain contests in the primary election. Primary-only voters can vote on the following contests:

  • Nonpartisan candidate races that contain three or more candidates
  • Partisan candidate races, regardless of the number of candidates, appearing on a primary election ballot
  • Presidential primary, only held once every 4 years

Primary-only voters are not permitted to vote on measures or other races in the primary election that will not go to the general election.

For questions or more information on Primary-only voters, please contact our office.

Rumor Has It...

While the internet is a convenient place to share and find information, it has also become a source of inaccurate information about elections in Washington and across the U.S. From the security of mail-in ballots to who is eligible to vote, it’s not always easy to separate fact from fiction. The Office of the Secretary of State is dedicated to ensuring every Washingtonian has access to accurate election information, so they created the Rumor Has It... page where you can find official information that clarifies trending rumors found on social media regarding Washington’s election system.
